It's a little generic, seeing as just about the only things separating it from the thing it's based on are its face and the ringed patterns on its tail, but simple isn't always bad, and yes, it's very cute. Okay, you know what? This thing is adorable. Just remember that despite its large special TM movepool, it has awful Sp. Not much more than average, but it's got alright stats and okay moves. You'll need to be very careful with it before its evolution. Unfortunately, despite Sentret evolving quickly, it has awful, awful stats pre-evolution. Either way, it's, uh, really not bad! Of course, it's not amazing or anything, but it's certainly decent, and I can see it being useful throughout the game if you want to take it that far.

Normally I wouldn't include this evaluation category for legends or for Pokemon I've never Nuzlocked with, and Zapdos falls into both categories, but I feel I definitely should at least mention that Zapdos is different from most legends in how early it's available - you'll still have ample time to use it. It'll run into problems with the common ground/rock typing and with great special walls, but if you want someone that hits hard (with a fair speed) and acceptable coverage, Zapdos is a great team addition. come on, it's a legend with pretty dang good defensive typing and great special attack. It does, though still roll off the tongue with a punch, though, complimenting the spikiness. The one problem is the name, while taken together with Moltres and Articuno is fun, overall is a bit lackluster. Also, it's based on the thunderbird of native American mythology, and I love stuff like that. It keeps the 'don't mess with me!' kind of badassery without sacrificing much, since it is supposed to be tough-as-nails because it's a legend. Although I don't generally go for spikey, (as I mentioned when reviewing Jolteon,) but Zapdos is probably the one case where I think it works.
